Chapel of St. Philip Neri
The chapel was founded in the 17th century, during the Baroque period, by the local community of Ghaxaq. The exact date of its construction is not well-documented, but it is believed to have been built in the early to mid-1600s. It is dedicated to St. Philip Neri, an Italian priest and founder of the Congregation of the Oratory. St. Philip Neri was known for his piety, charity, and devotion to the youth. His influence spread throughout Europe, and he became widely venerated as a saint.
Like many churches and chapels built during the Baroque period in Malta, the San Filippu Neri Chapel features elaborate architectural details. These may include intricate stonework, frescoes, statues, and altarpieces, all characteristic of the Baroque style. The chapel served as a place of worship for the local community, providing them with spiritual guidance, religious services, and a space for communal prayer and reflection. St. Philip Neri and the Oratorians
